This week we explored pictures of construction sites and discuss the different tools that carpenters, and plumbers use to build a house. At dramatic play the children build amazing creations and practice using a hammer and golf tees (as nail). We talked about safety rules at construction sites and how to use different tool safely. The children use marshmallows and toothpicks to create a structure. We talked about different shapes and how buildings need a strong foundation. Also, the children practice counting 1:1 object and write numbers.  The children use Legos to paint and also use different geometric shapes to create their representation of a house. The children at home also engage in hand activities by drawing blueprints and building with cups and using scissors.


Esta semana exploramos imágenes de sitios de construcción y discutimos las diferentes herramientas que los carpinteros y plomeros usan para construir una casa. En el juego dramático, los niños construyen creaciones asombrosas y practican usando un martillo y dientes de golf (como clavos). Hablamos sobre las reglas de seguridad en los sitios de construcción y cómo usar diferentes herramientas de manera segura. Los niños usan malvaviscos y palillos de dientes para crear una estructura. Hablamos sobre diferentes formas y cómo los edificios necesitan una base sólida. Además, los niños practican contando objetos 1: 1 y escriben números. Los niños usan Legos para pintar y también usaron diferentes formas geométricas para crear su representación de una casa. Los niños en casa también participan en actividades dibujando planos y construyendo con copas y usando tijeras.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
