Human Body/ El cuerpo humano

The past month, the children learn about dental health and healthy food. This week, we start our study on the human body. We learned that under our skin, we have a skeleton system that help us to hold up and protect our organs. Also, we learned about body parts. At science table, the children played with puzzle skeleton and use a baby doll to identify body parts. At art table, they drew picture of a person and practice their fine motor skills by cutting body parts. At table game, the children take turn and played operation. At dramatic play, we setup a doctor’s office. The children pretended to be doctors and nurses. They checked temperature and heart beats of their patients. It was fun to see the children connect information about their experience of going to the doctor and imitate these actions. It was a fun week! 

 

El mes pasado, los niños aprenden sobre salud dental y alimentación saludable. Esta semana, comenzamos nuestro estudio sobre el cuerpo humano. Aprendimos que debajo de nuestra piel tenemos un sistema esquelético que nos ayuda a sostener y proteger nuestros órganos. Además, aprendimos sobre las partes del cuerpo. En la mesa de ciencias, los niños jugaron con el esqueleto del rompecabezas y usaron una muñeca bebé para identificar las partes del cuerpo. En la mesa de arte, hicieron un dibujo de una persona y practicaron sus habilidades motoras finas cortando partes del cuerpo. En el juego de mesa, los niños se turnan y juegan a la operación. En el juego dramático, instalamos un consultorio médico. Los niños se hicieron pasar por médicos y enfermeros. Revisaron la temperatura y los latidos del corazón de sus pacientes. Fue divertido ver a los niños conectar información sobre su experiencia de ir al médico e imitar estas acciones. ¡Fue una semana divertida!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
