Kindergarten/Kínder

This week, we talked about how kindergarten and preschool are similar and different and the importance of being kind to make new friends. At art table, the children drew a picture of our school, their friends and teachers. At science, we discovered we have 2 butterflies. We have fed them with water and sugar and fruit, so they can get strong and we will release them soon. At dramatic play, the children enjoyed pretending to serve food and go through a cafeteria line. At blocks the children continued building together and experimenting with blocks. At sensory table, the children used magnet letters. The children recognized letters and their sound. We can’t believe that our graduation celebrating is next week! 

 

Esta semana, hablamos sobre las similitudes y diferencias entre el Kínder y el preescolar y la importancia de ser amable para hacer nuevos amigos. En la mesa de arte, los niños hicieron un dibujo de nuestra escuela, sus amigos y maestros. En ciencias, descubrimos que tenemos 2 mariposas. Los hemos alimentado con agua, azúcar y fruta, para que se fortalezcan y pronto los soltaremos. En el juego dramático, los niños disfrutaron simulando servir comida y pasar por la fila de la cafetería. En los bloques, los niños continuaron construyendo juntos y experimentando con bloques. En la mesa sensorial, los niños usaron letras magnéticas. Los niños reconocieron las letras y su sonido. ¡No podemos creer que nuestra celebración de graduación sea la próxima semana!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
