Bakery/La panaderia

We continue learning about the bakery.  We learned about yeast. The yeast love to be able to eat their favorite sugar in a warm, moist environment where they will multiply in numbers. As the yeast munch away on their sugar, a process called anaerobic fermentation begins to take place. The by-products of this process are alcohol and carbon dioxide. We mixed yeast, sugar and warm water in a bottle and put a balloon on top. The children observed how the balloon filled with carbon dioxide. We talked about how air made little holes in our bread and helped to grow during the baking process. At the sensory table, the children mixed flour and water to make bread dough also, they played with poms-poms, muffin pans, cupcake lines and tongs.  At art center, we painted with a cookie cutter, rolling pin and cups of different sizes. At math table, we added Candyland. We encouraged the children to take turns and wait for their turn and follow the game rules and we used snap cubes to measure pictures of cookies, cakes, chocolate and candy. At science, we painted with colored milk and toasted the bread. It was delicious! Also, we tasted Nutella and we talked about different ways to use this spread! At writing table, we added letter stamps, the children have fun stamping their name. We are working on creating our class version of the book “Who Took the Cookie from the Cookie Jar? I wanted to thank all the parents that took the time to meet with me to discuss their child’s progress and created goals for the next 3 months. We will send home handouts with easy activities that will support your child’s development. 

 

Seguimos aprendiendo sobre la panadería. Aprendimos sobre la levadura. A la levadura le encanta poder comer su azúcar favorita en un ambiente cálido y húmedo donde se multiplicarán en número. A medida que la levadura mastica su azúcar, comienza a tener lugar un proceso llamado fermentación anaeróbica. Los subproductos de este proceso son el alcohol y el dióxido de carbono. Mezclamos la levadura, el azúcar y el agua tibia en una botella y colocamos un globo encima. Los niños observaron cómo el globo se llenaba de dióxido de carbono. Hablamos sobre cómo el aire hizo pequeños agujeros en nuestro pan y ayudó a crecer durante el proceso de horneado. En la mesa sensorial, los niños mezclaron harina y agua para hacer masa de pan también, jugaron con pompones, moldes para muffins, líneas para panecillos y pinzas. En el centro de arte, pintamos con un cortador de galletas, un rodillo y vasos de diferentes tamaños. En la mesa de matemáticas, agregamos Candyland. Alentamos a los niños a esperar su turno y seguir las reglas del juego y usamos cubos para medir imágenes de galletas, pasteles, chocolate y dulces. En ciencias pintamos con leche de colores y tostamos el pan. ¡Estaba delicioso! ¡Además, probamos Nutella y hablamos sobre diferentes formas de usar esta pasta! En el escritorio, agregamos sellos de letras, los niños se divierten estampando su nombre. Estamos trabajando en la creación de nuestra versión de clase del libro “¿Quién tomó la galleta del tarro de galletas? Quería agradecer a todos los padres que se tomaron el tiempo de reunirse conmigo para hablar sobre el progreso de sus hijos y crearon metas para los próximos 3 meses. Enviaremos a casa folletos con actividades sencillas que apoyarán el desarrollo de su hijo.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
