The Gingerbread man/ El hombre de Jengibre

This week we learned about The Gingerbread Man. We read several versions of the book. The gingerbread man has become one of our class favorites. At art table, we decorated a gingerbread man, we used gingerbread man cookie cutters to paint and play with playdough. At science table, we used different materials to measure gingerbread boy, girl and house. We tasted gingerbread cookies and we found out why the gingerbread man didn’t want to cross the river. The children made predictions what will happen if the gingerbread man got into the water. We put a gingerbread man in water, and we observed the change through the day. We found the water changed color and the cookies got really soft and broke into soft pieces.  At blocks, the children used the blocks to make a house for the gingerbread man and a trap to catch the gingerbread man. At math, we count 1:1 gingerbread cookie and played in a small group.  The Candy Land board game provided the children the opportunity to follow rules, take turns and wait for their turn. At sensory, the children played with pictures of a variety of sizes of the gingerbread man. We encourage the children to order from biggest to smallest or smallest to biggest. At literacy, we continue learning about the letters, their sound and shape. We finish our week by building our annual Gingerbread house. The parents and children work together and built delicious gingerbread houses! It was a fun and delicious activity!

 

Esta semana aprendimos sobre El hombre de jengibre. Leímos varias versiones del libro. El hombre de p jengibre se ha convertido en uno de los favoritos de nuestra clase. En la mesa de arte, decoramos un muñeco de jengibre, usamos cortadores de galletas de muñeco de jengibre para pintar y jugar con plastilina. En la mesa de ciencias, usamos diferentes materiales para medir el niño, la niña y la casa de pan de jengibre. Probamos galletas de jengibre y descubrimos por qué el hombre de jengibre no quería cruzar el río. Los niños hicieron predicciones de lo que sucederá si el hombrecito de jengibre se mete al agua. Pusimos un muñeco de pan de jengibre en agua y observamos el cambio a lo largo del día. Encontramos que el agua cambió de color y las galletas se pusieron muy suaves y se rompieron en pedazos suaves. En los bloques, los niños usaron los bloques para hacer una casa para el hombre de jengibre y una trampa para atrapar al hombre de jengibre. En matemáticas, contamos galletas de jengibre 1:1 y jugamos en un grupo pequeño. El juego de mesa Candy Land brindó a los niños la oportunidad de seguir las reglas, tomar turnos y esperar su turno. En sensorial, los niños jugaron con imágenes de una variedad de tamaños del hombre de pan de jengibre. Animamos a los niños a ordenar de mayor a menor o de menor a mayor. En alfabetización seguimos aprendiendo sobre las letras, su sonido y forma. Terminamos nuestra semana construyendo nuestra casa de pan de jengibre anual. ¡Los padres y los niños trabajan juntos y construyen deliciosas casas de pan de jengibre! ¡Fue una actividad divertida y deliciosa

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
