This week our class explored two of the most fascinating parts of the human body — the heart and the brain! We learned that the brain is like a computer that controls all the body’s functions, and the nervous system acts like a communication network that relays messages to every part of the body. Our heart, a super-strong, fist-sized muscle in the middle of our chest, works nonstop as a pump for the circulatory system, keeping us alive and active. During Science, the children learned to use stethoscopes to listen to their heartbeats before and after exercising. They also used Without Tears pieces to construct a model skeleton while learning about bones and body structure. At the Art Table, the children made creative X-ray representations, painted their favorite fruits, and drew Mat Man. In Manipulatives, they measured their hands and created colorful patterns that strengthened their math and observation skills. For Literacy, the focus was on learning letters, sounds, and spelling CVC words, while in Blocks, the children designed and built with a variety of structures. Dramatic Play was full of imagination as the children took on the roles of doctors and nurses, caring for their “patients” and acting out what they’d learned about the body.

We wrapped up this exciting week with our annual field trip to the Marble Museum, where curiosity and creativity came together. It was a week filled with learning, discovery, and lots of fun!

Esta semana, nuestra clase exploró dos de las partes más fascinantes del cuerpo humano: el corazón y el cerebro. Aprendimos que el cerebro es como una computadora que controla todas las funciones del cuerpo, y que el sistema nervioso funciona como una red de comunicación que envía mensajes a todas las partes del cuerpo. Descubrimos que el corazón es un músculo muy fuerte, del tamaño de un puño, que se encuentra en el centro del pecho y actúa como una bomba para el sistema circulatorio. Durante la clase de Ciencias, los niños aprendieron a usar el estetoscopio para escuchar los latidos de su corazón antes y después del ejercicio. También usaron piezas de Without Tears para construir un esqueleto y aprender sobre los huesos y la estructura del cuerpo. En la Mesa de Arte, los niños crearon representaciones de radiografías, pintaron sus frutas favoritas y dibujaron a Mat Man. En el área de Manipulativos, midieron sus manos y crearon patrones coloridos, fortaleciendo sus habilidades matemáticas y de observación. En Lectoescritura, continuaron aprendiendo letras, sonidos y la escritura de palabras CVC. En Bloques, construyeron con diferentes materiales, y en Juego Dramático, se divirtieron representando los roles de doctores y enfermeras, cuidando a sus “pacientes” y poniendo en práctica lo que aprendieron sobre el cuerpo.

Terminamos esta increíble semana con nuestra excursión anual al Museo del Mármol, donde la curiosidad y la creatividad se unieron. ¡Fue una semana llena de aprendizaje, descubrimientos y mucha diversión!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
