Leaves! Hojas!

This week, the children explored why leaves are falling down and why leaves are changing colors. The children have enjoyed collecting leaves during outside time. We learned about chlorophyll, that help leaves to stay green during summer and spring, but the trees doesn’t produce it during Fall and that is the reason leaves change colors during Fall. During this week, we conducted a science experiment with the leaves. We observed when the chlorophyll goes away and the leaves turned orange, red and yellow colors. Please, check our predictions and conclusion at the science center.
We created a man with different sizes and color leaves after we read the book “The Leaf Man'”, by Lois Ehlert. Ms.Li and Ms.Krista read about the different things you can do with the fallen leaves, and how to know that it is fall. Everyone got a chance to use different colors to paint with leaves instead of paintbrushes. We also pretended to rake leaves and had our friends all work together to rake them.  We had a great week learning all about leaves!

Esta semana, los niños exploraron porque las hojas se están cayendo y porque las hojas están cambiando de color. Los niños disfrutaron colectando hojas durante nuestro tiempo afuera. Aprendimos acerca la clorofila, que ayuda a las hojas estar verde durante el verano y primavera, pero los arboles dejan de producirla en el otoño y esa es la razón por la cual las hojas cambia de color durante el otoño. Durante, esta semana, Hicimos un experimento en ciencia con las hojas. Observamos que la clorofila se va de las hojas las hojas cambia de color a naranja, rojas y amarillas. Por favor, cheque nuestras predicciones y conclusión en la mesa de ciencia.
Creamos hombres con hojas de diferentes colores y tamaño después que leímos el libro “El hombre hoja”, por la escritora Lois Ehlert. Ms. Li y Ms. Krista leyeron acerca de las diferentes cosas que podemos hacer con las hojas que se han caído, y como saber que el otoño esta aquí. Todos tuvieron un chance de usar diferentes colores de pintura pata pintar con la hojas  en lugar de brochas. También pretendimos usar rastrillo y trabajamos con nuestros amigos para colectarlas. Tuvimos una fabulosa semana aprendiendo todo acerca de la hoja de los arboles y como cambian!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
