Today’s event was a success. It was great to see parents and the children playing together. The children have been working really hard. In the few weeks, they are learning our routine and we are working on strengthening their fine motor. During our events, the children had the opportunity to show their parents their favorite learning centers. It was amazing to see how they have become little leaders and how they explain to their parents the classroom rules and the different ways to use the materials. The parents had the opportunity to learn why and how important is PLAY in our day.  Thanks to the parents for taking the time to visit our classroom.

El evento de hoy fue un éxito. Fue grandioso ver a los padres y a los niños jugar juntos. Los niños han trabajado muy duro. En esta semana, hemos aprendido la rutina de nuestra clase y estamos trabajando en fortalecer nuestra motricidad fina. Durante nuestro evento, los niños tuvieron la oportunidad de mostrar le a los padre su centro de juego favorito. Fue maravillo ver como los niños se transformaron en pequeños líderes y ellos le explicaron a sus padres las reglas de nuestra clase y las diferente manera de usar los materiales. Los padres tuvieron la oportunidad de aprender porque y cuan importante es el JUEGO en nuestro día. Gracias a los padres por tomarse el tiempo de visitar nuestra clase.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
