Migration and Adaptation! Migración y adaptación!

This week we continue learning about animals that adapt and migrate. Some animals fly south to warm weather such as monarch butterflies and some birds. The children painted beautiful butterflies. We are adapting to being in school after winter break and some snow days. The children are playing letters and puzzles. In the dramatic area, the children pretended to ice fish and live in an igloo. At the sensory table the children played with water beads and artic animals. They counted and sorted. The children are using different materials to measure and sort by color. It was an excited week!

Esta semana continuamos aprendiendo acerca de los animales que se adapta y que migran. Algunos animales vuelan al sur en busca de un clima mas cálido como la monarca mariposa y algunos pájaros. Los niños pintaron bellas mariposa, Nos estamos adaptamos a estar en la escuela después de la vacaciones de invierno y algunos días de nieve. Los niños están jugando con letras y rompecabezas. En el área de dramático, los niños pretendieron pescar en el j=hielo y vivir en un iglú. En la mesa sensorial jugaron con bolas de agua y animales que viven el antártica, Ellos los contaron y clasificaron. Los niños usaron diferente materiales para medir y clasificar por color. Esta semana fue emociónate!.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
