Ice cream! Helados!

This week continue learning about ice cream. We experimented with ice; we added water, salt and sugar to a cup with ice. We discovered that the ice cube in water and the ice cube covered in salt were melting the fastest. Also, we experimented with light. The children drew pictures in the light table. They observed how the different colors mixed and created different lines and drawing. At the sensory table, we experimented with frozen water beads and water. We observe that water help ice to melt. It took one whole day to melt a bag of frozen beads. At art table we use Q-tips and paint sticks to paint. The children painted beautiful pictures. We finished our week with a fun field trip to Marbles museum. The children had the opportunity to explore different materials and had fun in the process. 

Esta semana continuamos aprendiendo acerca de los helados. Experimentamos con hielo, añadimos agua, sal y azúcar en una vaso con hielo. Descubrimos que los cubos de hielo en el agua y los cubo de hielo cubierto de sal se derriten mas rápido. También, experimentamos con luz. Los niños dibujaron en la mesa de luz. Observaron como los diferente colores se mezclan y crearon diferente líneas y dibujo. En la mesa sensorial, experimentamos con  las perlas de agua congelada y agua. Observamos que el agua ayuda a al hielo a derretirse. Tomo todo un día en derretirse una bolsa de perlas de agua congeladas. En la mesa se arte usamos q-tips y pintura en barra para pintar. Los niños pintaron hermosas piezas de arte. Terminamos nuestra semana y un divertido paseo a el museo de marbles. Los niños tuvieron la oportunidad de explorar diferente materiales y divertirse en le proceso.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
