Wow what a year! I can’t believe this year is over. We went through many transitions during this year and I’m so impress of our student’s capacity to adapt and engage in different ways during virtual and face to face instructions. It was not easy, but we did it together! 

Ms. Brooke and I want to thank all the parents who shared with us their precious child, let us enter into your home and be part of your family. We are thankful for each moment we spent together and being part of your child’s first steps in formal education. 

We want to congratulate all our students for their hard work during the hard moments. Remember, you can handle it!

Remember your child and your family will always be part of our school family. We will be here if you need anything!

¡Qué año! No puedo creer que este año haya terminado. Pasamos por muchas transiciones durante este año y estoy muy impresionado de la capacidad de nuestros estudiantes para adaptarse y participar de diferentes maneras durante las instrucciones virtuales y en el salón. No fue fácil, ¡pero lo hicimos juntos!

La Sra. Brooke y yo queremos agradecer a todos los padres que compartieron con nosotros a su precioso hijo, dejarnos entrar a su casa y ser parte de su familia. Estamos agradecidos por cada momento que pasamos juntos y por ser parte de los primeros pasos de su hijo en la educación formal.

Queremos felicitar a todos nuestros estudiantes por su arduo trabajo durante los momentos difíciles. Recuerde, ¡puedes manejarlo!

Recuerde que su hijo y su familia siempre serán parte de nuestra familia escolar. ¡Estaremos aquí si necesitas algo!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. At the table game, the children played with small colored blocks, puzzles, and Mr. Potato Head. At literacy, the children sorted letters by color, matched letters of their first and last names, and worked with letter puzzles and robot letters. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
