Kindergarten/ El Kinder

This week, we learned about kindergarten. We learned that kindergarten and our classroom are similar. Some kindergarten has learning centers and we also have different learning centers. Kindergarten have rules and teachers expect certain behaviors and we also have rules in our classroom. It was fun to learn a little bit about our kindergarten! 

Also, we spent our play in the different learning centers.  At manipulative, the children practice taking turns and sharing materials with peers, practice visual discrimination and solving problem skills. At science, the children created patterns and play with magnets. At literacy, the children played with letters and sounds and literacy games such as opposite words and finding the beginning sound in words. At dramatic play, the children pretended to set a table and cook their favorite food and at blocks, the children use different blocks and played cooperatively to build amazing structures. 

Our students at home use blocks and animals to build structures and play board games and listen to read aloud about kindergarten! 

Our classroom is beginning a countdown to our last day of school and our year end celebration/ Graduation. We can’t believe our year together is almost over.

 

Esta semana, aprendimos sobre e kinder. Aprendimos que en el kínder y nuestro salón de clases es similares. Algunos Kinder tienen centros de aprendizaje y también tenemos diferentes centros de aprendizaje. El kínder tiene reglas y los maestros esperan ciertos comportamientos y también tenemos reglas en nuestro salón de clases. ¡Fue divertido aprender un poco sobre nuestro jardín de infantes!

Además, la pasamos jugando en los diferentes centros de aprendizaje. En la manipulación, los niños practican turnarse y compartir materiales con sus compañeros, practican la discriminación visual y la resolución de problemas. En ciencias, los niños crearon patrones y jugaron con imanes. En la alfabetización, los niños jugaron con letras y sonidos y juegos de alfabetización como palabras opuestas y encontrando el sonido inicial en las palabras. En el juego dramático, los niños fingieron poner una mesa y cocinar su comida favorita y en bloques, los niños usaron diferentes bloques y jugaron cooperativamente para construir estructuras asombrosas.

¡Nuestros estudiantes en casa usaron bloques y animales para construir estructuras y jugar juegos de mesa y escuchar libro acerca del kinder!

Nuestro salón de clases está comenzando una cuenta regresiva para nuestro último día de clases y nuestra celebración / graduación de fin de año. No podemos creer que nuestro año juntos casi haya terminado.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
