This week was short, but we took advance of our time. This week we learned about the importance of rules or commitment in our school family. Rules or commitment help us to be safe in the classroom and playground. Our job is to keep our students safe and their job is to help keep it that way. We created an easy commitment that will help children to keep their body and friends safe. At sensory table, the children practice their fine motor by using garlic press and sponge and water play. At art table, the children painted with Q-tips and decorated their family frame. At manipulatives, the children sorted by size, played with geoboard, peg and board and snap bottom. At science, the children copy patterns, played with magnet shapes, used ten frames and learned about non-standard measure. At the writing table, the children began to practice writing their name and drawing pictures in their journal. At dramatic center, the children explored the dress up closets, cleaning prompts and pretended to cook. We are excited to welcome a new student to our school family. 

 

Esta semana fue corta, pero aprovechamos nuestro tiempo. Esta semana aprendimos sobre la importancia de las reglas o el compromiso en nuestra familia escolar. Las reglas o el compromiso nos ayudan a estar seguros en el aula y en el patio de recreo. Nuestro trabajo es mantener seguros a nuestros estudiantes y su trabajo es ayudar a que así sea. Creamos un compromiso fácil que ayudará a los niños a mantener a salvo su cuerpo y sus amigos. En la mesa sensorial, los niños practican su motricidad fina usando una prensa de ajo, una esponja y un juego de agua. En la mesa de arte, los niños pintaron con hisopos y decoraron el marco de su familia. En manipulativos, los niños clasificaron por tamaño, jugaron con geoboard, clavija y tablero y botones para crear patrones. En ciencias, los niños copian patrones, jugaron con formas magnéticas, usaron marcos de diez y aprendieron sobre medidas no estándar. En la mesa de escritura, los niños comenzaron a practicar escribiendo su nombre y haciendo dibujos en su diario. En el centro dramático, los niños exploraron los vestidores, las indicaciones de limpieza y fingieron cocinar. Estamos emocionados de dar la bienvenida a un nuevo estudiante a nuestra familia escolar.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
