Apples/Manzanas

This week was full of fun! The children learned about predictions and experimented with some materials that float and sink. In science, the children use the balance to find things that have the weight as an apple or heavier than an apple. Also, the children copy and extended AB patterns. At the literacy table, we practice recognizing letters by matching letters and the children are spelling their friends name and used curve and straight lines to create uppercase letters. At art table, we used scissors. The children cut out apples and practice recognizing the letters in their name. Also, the children used scissors to cut tape. It was a great exercise for their little hands. At dramatic play, the children continue to bake delicious pies and selling apples (very pricey apples $100 for 5 apples lol). At the sensory center, they practice sorting pom-poms by using thongs. At the manipulative table, the children created new structures with connect blox, copy patterns and made an apple tree with Legos. At blocks, the children experimented with apples and gutters. The children experimented with different heights and different apples. They found out that small apples roll faster, and the big apples can get stuck. It was fun to see the children work together and try to find a solution to their problem by experimenting with the materials. Also, last Tuesday was our first social group. Ms. Sara help the children to identify emotions. 

 

¡Esta semana estuvo llena de diversión! Los niños aprendieron sobre predicciones y experimentaron con algún material que flota o se hunde. En ciencias, los niños usaron la balanza para encontrar cosas que pesen como una manzana o más pesadas que una manzana. Además, los niños copian y amplían los patrones AB. En la mesa de letras, practicamos el reconocimiento de letras haciendo coincidir letras y los niños están deletreando el nombre de sus amigos y usaron líneas curvas y rectas para crear letras mayúsculas. En la mesa de arte, usamos tijeras. Los niños recortan una manzana y practican para reconocer las letras de su nombre. Además, los niños usan tijeras para cortar la cinta. Fue un gran ejercicio para sus manitas. En el juego dramático, los niños continúan horneando pasteles deliciosos y vendiendo manzanas (manzanas muy caras $ 100 por 5 manzanas lol). A mesa sensorial, practican clasificar pompones usando tangas. En la mesa de manipulación, los niños crean una nueva estructura con bloques de conexión, copiaron patrones y hicieron un árbol con Legos. En los bloques, los niños experimentan con manzanas y cunetas. Los niños experimentan con diferentes alturas y diferentes manzanas. Descubrieron que las manzanas pequeñas ruedan más rápido y las grandes pueden atascarse. Fue divertido ver a los niños trabajar juntos y tratar de encontrar una solución a su problema experimentando con los materiales. Tambien, el marte fue nuestro primer grupo social, Ms. Sara ayudo a los niños identificar emociones.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
