Building/Los edificios

This week we celebrated the Week of the young children. Our school organized different activities such as a special snack, delicious strawberries with chocolate chips, made a kite, planted flowers at the sensory garden, music class and took a special picture. All the activities were linked to a book. It was so much fun!  Also, we celebrated our learning about buildings.  At the sensory the children played with sand and building mold around the world. At art, the children used oil pastel. At pretend play they continued pretending to be a construction worker and use different tools. At blocks, they used a variety of blocks to create amazing structures. At literacy the children continued playing with letters, recognizing sound and alliteration! At math, they are counting 1:1 correspondence. Also, the children worked in small group. Each group decided what kind of building they wanted to create, work together and make sketches of their buildings. It was amazing to see each group working together and also the children engaged in some invented spelling by sounding and recognizing some letters. Please check our final display outside of class and be impressed by some amazing buildings. We want to thank you for all the boxes you donated that helped us with this final project! 

 

Esta semana hemos celebrado la Semana de los niños pequeños. Nuestra escuela organizó diferentes actividades como una merienda especial, deliciosas fresas con chispas de chocolate, hizo una cometa, sembró flores en el jardín sensorial, clase de música y se tomó una foto especial. Todas las actividades estaban vinculadas a un libro. ¡Fue muy divertido! Además, celebramos nuestro aprendizaje sobre los edificios. En el sensorial los niños jugaron con arena y moldes de construcción de todo el mundo. En arte, los niños usaron pastel al óleo. En el juego de simulación, continuaron fingiendo ser trabajadores de la construcción y usaron diferentes herramientas. En los bloques, usaron una variedad de bloques para crear estructuras asombrosas. En alfabetización, los niños continuaron jugando con las letras, reconociendo el sonido y la aliteración. En matemáticas, están contando correspondencia 1:1. Además, los niños trabajaron en pequeños grupos. Cada grupo decidió qué tipo de edificio querían crear, trabajar juntos y hacer bocetos de sus edificios. Fue increíble ver a cada grupo trabajando juntos y también a los niños participando en algo de ortografía inventada al sonar y reconocer algunas letras. Consulte nuestra exhibición final fuera de clase y déjese impresionar por algunos edificios asombrosos. ¡Queremos agradecerles por todas las cajas que donaron que nos ayudaron con este proyecto final!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
