Flowers/ Las flores

This week, we begin our study on flowers/plants. We transformed our dramatic area into a flower shop. The children played with flowers, made flower arraignments and water flowers. At blocks, the children added flowers to their structures.  At the sensory table, the children used their finger to put flowers into a streamer and use gardening tools, soil and plastic flowers. At art table, the children drew pictures of their representation of a flower, observed a flower and painted them and used geometric shapes to make a flower. At math table, we used pattern blocks to make a flower and used snap cubes to measure different flowers. At literacy, the children continued playing with letters, sounds and spelling words. At science, the children used magnifying glasses to explore different seeds and drew pictures of their observations. Also, the children put black beans to germinate and they will observe the changes on the beans over time. 

 

Esta semana, comenzamos nuestro estudio sobre flores/plantas. Transformamos nuestra área dramática en una floristería. Los niños jugaron con flores, hicieron diligencias de flores y flores de agua. En los bloques, los niños agregaron flores a sus estructuras. En la mesa sensorial, los niños usaron su dedo para poner flores en una serpentina y usar herramientas de jardinería, tierra y flores de plástico. En la mesa de arte, los niños hicieron dibujos de su representación de una flor, observaron una flor y las pintaron y usaron formas geométricas para hacer una flor. En la mesa de matemáticas, usamos bloques de patrón para hacer una flor y usamos cubos para medir diferentes flores. En alfabetización, los niños continuaron jugando con las letras, los sonidos y las palabras de ortografía. En ciencia, los niños usaron lupas para explorar diferentes semillas e hicieron dibujos de sus observaciones. Además, los niños ponen frijoles negros a germinar y observarán los cambios en los frijoles con el tiempo.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
