Our rules/ Nuestras reglas

This week our class created rules to keep us safe in the classroom. We learned that rules help us to keep our class clean and organized. We promise to follow our rules or commitment to be safe and be kind with all friends. The children kept pretending to cook their favorite meal and take care of their babies in housekeeping. At blocks, the children are using wooden and rainbow blocks to make structures. They are learning to take turns and play together. They are adding people and animals to their structures. At sensory table, the children used tongs to sort poms-poms by colors. We add the book “The Color Monster” we talked about the different colors and emotions, also the children played with water, measure cups and funnels. At music, the children are playing together and learning to stop and play. At art table, the children used Q-tips to paint, watercolors and stick paint. Also, they played with play dough to help with their fine motor. They children enjoyed creating amazing art. At math/manipulate table, the children are practicing following patterns, building with small blocks, dressing board, sorting by size and recognizing shapes. At literacy, we are practicing recognizing letters, matching uppercase and lowercase letters. At science, we mixed primary colors to create new colors and the children explored their fingerprints with magnifying glasses. At writing table, the children practice writing their name, using stickers and drawing pictures. It was a busy week!

 

Esta semana nuestra clase creó reglas para mantenernos seguros en el salón de clases. Aprendimos que las reglas nos ayudan a mantener nuestra clase limpia y organizada. Prometemos seguir nuestras reglas o compromiso de estar seguros y ser amables con todos los amigos. Los niños seguían fingiendo cocinar su comida favorita y cuidar a sus bebés en las tareas del hogar. En los bloques, los niños usan bloques de madera y de arcoíris para hacer estructuras. Están aprendiendo a turnarse y jugar juntos. Están agregando personas y animales a sus estructuras. En la mesa sensorial, los niños usaron pinzas para clasificar los pompones por colores. Agregamos el libro “El Monstruo de Colores” hablamos de los diferentes colores y emociones, además los niños jugaron con agua, vasos medidores y embudos. En la música, los niños juegan juntos y aprenden a detenerse y tocar. En la mesa de arte, los niños usaron hisopos para pintar, acuarelas y pintura en barra. Además, jugaron con plastilina para ayudar con su motricidad fina. Los niños disfrutaron creando arte increíble. En la mesa de matemáticas/manipulación, los niños practican seguir patrones, construir con bloques pequeños, tocador, clasificar por tamaño y reconocer formas. En alfabetización, estamos practicando el reconocimiento de letras, uniendo letras mayúsculas y minúsculas. En ciencias, mezclamos colores primarios para crear colores nuevos y los niños exploraron sus huellas dactilares con lupas. En la mesa de escritura, los niños practican escribir su nombre, usando pegatinas y haciendo dibujos. ¡Fue una semana ocupada!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
