Transportation/ El transporte

This week, it was our last week learning about transportation. We learned about traffic signs and how people need to follow them to keep everybody safe on the road.  At art center, the children used dot to dot paint, used scissors and painted with watercolors. At blocks, the children continued creating amazing structures. Also, the children learned that a map is an illustration of an area such as a city, a country, or a continent, showing its main features. It is a drawing that gives special clues about an area. The children used blocks to build a city/ or neighborhood and then used crayons and paper to draw a representation of their map. At writing table, the children matched upper case letters and lowercase letters or match colors. At literacy, the children wrote the letters T and played with letters and spelling and sounding words. At manipulative table, the children practiced writing numbers and creating patterns. At dramatic play, the children continued pretending to fix/paint our taxi. The children decided that our next study will be on the gingerbread man and holiday.  

 

Esta semana fue nuestra última semana aprendiendo sobre transporte. Aprendimos sobre las señales de tránsito y cómo las personas deben seguirlas para mantener a todos seguros en la carretera. En el centro de arte, los niños usaron pintura punto a punto, usaron tijeras y pintaron con acuarelas. En los bloques, los niños continuaron creando estructuras asombrosas. Además, los niños aprendieron que un mapa es una ilustración de un área como una ciudad, un país o un continente, mostrando sus características principales. Es un dibujo que da pistas especiales sobre una zona. Los niños usaron bloques para construir una ciudad o un vecindario y luego usaron crayones y papel para dibujar una representación de su mapa. En el escritorio, los niños combinaron letras mayúsculas y minúsculas o combinaron colores. En la alfabetización, los niños escribieron la letra T y jugaron con las letras y con la ortografía y el sonido de las palabras. En la mesa manipulativa, los niños practicaron escribir números y crear patrones. En el juego dramático, los niños continuaron fingiendo que arreglaban/pintaban nuestro taxi. Los niños decidieron que nuestro próximo estudio sería sobre el hombre de jengibre y las navidades.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
