Exercise/El ejercicio

This week, we continued learning about exercise. We learned that when we exercise our heart pumps faster. We made a stethoscope with a funnel and paper roll to listen to the heart before and after exercise. At dramatic play, the children continued exercising and making smoothies.  At sensory, the children exercise their hands by hammering golf tees into a pool noddle and balance a ball. At science the children measure lines with tittles magnets and collected data and counted how many repetitions of one exercise they can do in 30 seconds and they collected their number. They did 4 different exercises. We also used a straw to move a pom-pom through a maze. We exercised our lungs. At blocks, we measured our height with blocks and created a class book! At manipulative table, the children drew their patterns, played with Legos and count 1:1 correspondence object. At literacy, the children played with floor puzzles, matching letters and sounds. At art table, the children matched shapes to make a person, painted with Q-tips.  We finally ended the week with a visit from a community helper, the Cary police, that thought us about the importance of following the rules and how police can help us in an emergency. 

 

Esta semana continuamos aprendiendo sobre el ejercicio. Aprendimos que cuando hacemos ejercicio nuestro corazón bombea más rápido. Hicimos un estetoscopio con embudo y rollo de papel para escuchar el corazón antes y después del ejercicio. En el juego dramático, los niños continuaron haciendo ejercicio y haciendo batidos. En el nivel sensorial, los niños ejercitan sus manos martillando tees de golf en un soporte de piscina y equilibrando una pelota. En ciencias, los niños midieron líneas con imanes de títulos y recopilaron datos, contaron cuántas repeticiones de un ejercicio pueden hacer en 30 segundos y recopilaron su número. Hicieron 4 ejercicios diferentes. También usamos una pajita para mover un pompón a través de un laberinto. Ejercitamos nuestros pulmones. ¡En los bloques, medimos nuestra altura con bloques y creamos un libro de clase! En la mesa manipulativa, los niños dibujaron sus patrones, jugaron con Legos y contaron objetos de correspondencia 1:1. En la alfabetización, los niños jugaron con rompecabezas en el suelo, uniendo letras y sonidos. En la mesa de arte, los niños combinaron formas para formar una persona, pintada con hisopos. Finalmente terminamos la semana con la visita de un ayudante comunitario, la policía de Cary, que nos habló sobre la importancia de seguir las reglas y cómo la policía puede ayudarnos en caso de emergencia.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
