This week we started our study on gardening, flowers and plants. We discussed the different types of gardens and we started our KWL chart. At art table, the children used markers to make representation of flowers, used geometric shapes to make flowers and observed flowers and painted the flowers. At block center, the children added flowers to their amazing structures. At dramatic center, the children set up a flower shop. The children sorted flowers by colors, design their own bouquet of flowers and pretended to buy and sell flowers. At sensory, the children practice their fine motor by putting plastic flowers into a colander. At science, the children explored different seeds and drew pictures of their findings. Also, the children put black beans to germinate. We learned that beans are another type of seed. At manipulative table, the children measured flowers with unifix cubes and wrote numbers. At literacy, the children work together to put floor puzzles together, spelling words and connecting sounds to spell CVC words. Also, the children are working together on taking care of the flowers we planted for the week of the young children. They are watering the flowers and learning to measure how much water plants/flowers needs.

 

Esta semana comenzamos nuestro estudio sobre jardinería, flores y plantas. Hablamos de los diferentes tipos de jardines y comenzamos nuestro cuadro KWL. En la mesa de arte, los niños usaron marcadores para hacer representaciones de flores, usaron formas geométricas para hacer flores y observaron flores y las pintaron. En el centro de bloques, los niños agregaron flores a sus asombrosas estructuras. En el centro dramático, los niños montaron una floristería. Los niños clasificaron flores por colores, diseñaron su propio ramo de flores y simularon comprar y vender flores. En el ámbito sensorial, los niños practican su motricidad fina poniendo flores de plástico en un colador. En ciencias, los niños exploraron diferentes semillas y dibujaron sus hallazgos. Además, los niños pusieron a germinar frijoles negros. Aprendimos que los frijoles son otro tipo de semilla. En la mesa manipulativa, los niños midieron flores con cubos unifix y escribieron números. En alfabetización, los niños trabajan juntos para armar rompecabezas de piso, deletrear palabras y conectar sonidos para deletrear palabras CVC. Además, los niños están trabajando juntos en el cuidado de las flores que plantamos durante la semana de los niños pequeños. Están regando las flores y aprendiendo a medir cuánta agua necesitan las plantas/flores.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
