This week, our class created rules or promises that would help teachers to keep all the students safe and based community classroom where the foundation is respected and kindness.  At sensory table, the children practiced their fine motor skills by using scissors to cut straws. At blocks, the children added cars to their structures, and they work together. At art center, the children painted with watercolors, painted with Q-Tips, stick paint and play dough. At literacy, the children continue working on their fine motor skills by engaging in activities that our curriculum handwriting without tears, fine motor journal and play with letters. At manipulative, the children started using their math journal, playing with small blocks, sorting objects, stringing beads by numbers and playing with puzzles. At science, the children learned about primary colors and mixing them. First, they explored color with paint and then they mixed colored water. At writing center, the children are practicing writing their names, drawing pictures and using writing board. Also, the children are learning to draw a person by drawing Mat Man. The children had so much fun playing outside by jumping hula hoops and practicing their gross motor skills. Next week, we will learn about our time at school. We will introduce our visual schedule and our helping hands.

 

Esta semana, nuestra clase creó reglas o promesas que ayudarían a los maestros a mantener a todos los estudiantes seguros y en un aula comunitaria donde la base es el respeto y la amabilidad.  En la mesa sensorial, los niños practicaron sus habilidades motoras finas usando tijeras para cortar pajitas. En los bloques, los niños agregaron autos a sus estructuras y trabajan juntos. En el centro de arte, los niños pintaron con acuarelas, pintaron con hisopos, pintura en barra y plastilina. En alfabetización, los niños continúan trabajando en sus habilidades motoras finas participando en actividades de nuestro plan de estudios: escritura a mano sin lágrimas, diario de motricidad fina y juego con letras. En los manipulativos, los niños comenzaron a usar su diario de matemáticas, jugar con bloques pequeños, clasificar objetos, ensartar cuentas por números y jugar con rompecabezas. En ciencias, los niños aprendieron sobre los colores primarios y cómo mezclarlos. Primero, exploraron el color con pintura y luego mezclaron agua coloreada. En el centro de escritura, los niños practican escribir sus nombres, hacer dibujos y usar una pizarra. Además, los niños están aprendiendo a dibujar una persona dibujando a Mat Man. Los niños se divirtieron mucho jugando afuera saltando aros de hula y practicando sus habilidades motoras gruesas. La próxima semana aprenderemos sobre nuestro tiempo en la escuela. Presentaremos nuestro horario visual y nuestras manos amigas.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. At literacy, the children sorted letters by color, matched letters of their first and last names, and worked with letter puzzles and robot letters. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
