This week we finished our study on transportation. We learned about engine and how this power our car and also, we learned that some cars are electric, and they don’t need gas. At block center, the children designed ramps and created a plan and drew it and then built it. The children created amazing drawings of their ramps. At dramatic play, the children continue pretending to be a mechanic and fix our car. They took apart our engine and put it together. At sensory, the children played with sand, blocks and cars. At art table, the children drew pictures of their favorite truck, used geometric shapes to make a train and painted with gears. At science table, the children used magnet tiles to make ramps and experimented with objects to try their ramps and used magnets to power cars. At manipulative, the children played with nuts and bolts by counting 1:1 correspondence, sorted objects by size and played with floor puzzles. At literacy, the children played with snap letter cubes by spelling their name or their friends. We finished our week by getting a special visitor “Santa” and decorating cookies. It was fun to see Santa and spending time with the families’ decorating cookies and having a delicious treat. The next week, we will learn about different versions of “The gingerbread man” 

 

Esta semana terminamos nuestro estudio sobre transporte. Aprendimos sobre el motor y cómo impulsa nuestro automóvil y también aprendimos que algunos automóviles son eléctricos y no necesitan gasolina. En el centro de bloques, los niños diseñaron rampas, crearon un plano, lo dibujaron y luego lo construyeron. Los niños crearon dibujos asombrosos de sus rampas. En el juego dramático, los niños siguen haciéndose pasar por mecánicos y arreglan nuestro coche. Desmontaron nuestro motor y lo armaron. En el sensorial, los niños jugaron con arena, bloques y coches. En la mesa de arte, los niños dibujaron su camión favorito, usaron formas geométricas para hacer un tren y pintaron con engranajes. En la mesa de ciencias, los niños usaron fichas magnéticas para hacer rampas y experimentaron con objetos para probar sus rampas y usaron imanes para impulsar automóviles. En la manipulación, los niños jugaron con tuercas y tornillos contando correspondencia 1:1, clasificaron objetos por tamaño y jugaron con rompecabezas de piso. En la alfabetización, los niños jugaron con cubos de letras deletreando su nombre o el de sus amigos. Terminamos nuestra semana recibiendo un visitante especial “Santa” y decorando galletas. Fue divertido ver a Santa y pasar tiempo con las familias decorando galletas y disfrutando de un delicioso manjar. La próxima semana conoceremos diferentes versiones de “El hombre de jengibre”

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
