Flowers! Flores!

This week we continue learning about flowers. We painted with flowers. It was fun to see the different patterns and they use different shapes to create their representation of flowers. At the science center, we explored flowers. We counted petals; we observed the stem under microscope and learn how some insects use pollen and nectar from flowers. The children use drawings to represent what they saw. Our bean sprout and the children learned about the roots and how important they are to make the plant strong. We replanted our black bean to a cup. The children will keep watering them and record changes. 
Esta semana continuamos aprendiendo acerca de las flores. Pintamos con flores. Fue divertidos ver los diferentes patrones y también usaron figuras geométricas para crear su propia flor. En la área de ciencia, exploramos las flores. Contamos los pétalos, observamos el tallo debajo del microscopio y aprendimos como algunos insectos usan el polen y el néctar de las flores. Los niños usaron dibujo para representar  los que vieron. Nuestra granos germinaron y los niños aprendieron como las raíces y cuan importante son par alas plantar hacerla fuerte. Los niños replantaron los granos negro en una copa. Los niños las cuidaran, regar y van a registrar los cambios.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
