This week, we learned how the insects change through different stages. The children sorted insects and were looking for similarities and differences. The children sorted insects by several categories. At literacy, we continue working on recognizing letters and producing sound and the children are playing with letters. The children practice using scissors and sorting butterflies by size. At art table, the children learned about symmetry of a butterfly and make a bee. The children continue creating amazing structures and working together, sharing, taking turns and solving social conflicts. Our students online, sorted words and painted beautiful butterflies. Next week, we will continue learning about insects.

 

Esta semana, aprendimos cómo cambian los insectos a través de diferentes etapas. Los niños clasificaron los insectos y buscaron similitudes y diferencias. Los niños clasificaron los insectos por varias categorías. En alfabetización, seguimos trabajando en el reconocimiento de letras y la producción de sonidos y los niños están jugando con las letras. Los niños practican el uso de tijeras y la clasificación de mariposas por tamaño. En la mesa de arte, los niños aprendieron sobre la simetría de una mariposa y hacen una abeja. Los niños continúan creando estructuras asombrosas y trabajando juntos, compartiendo, turnándose y resolviendo conflictos sociales. Nuestros estudiantes online, ordenaron palabras y pintaron hermosas mariposas. La semana que viene continuaremos aprendiendo sobre insectos.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
