We can’t believe this is our last week of this year! Our week was full of science and experimenting with materials. This week we learned how baking soda help cookies, cake and bread to taste better. Bakers called it a leaving because the gas that produce is contain with an acid that helps cookies to form the tiny holes inside the cookies and bread. The children experimented with baking soda and vinegar. Also, the children made structures with gumdrops and toothpicks. At art table, the children listen to directions on how to draw a gingerbread man and play with playdough and cookies cutters. We discuss how we can help the gingerbread man to cross the river. The children brainstormed and bridges, boats and helicopters were our top 3 solutions. The children created bridges in different centers and experimented with Legos, blocks, cups and tables. They created amazing bridges. We finished our week with our annual pajama day and decorating cookies. 

 

We want to wish all our families a safe and happy holiday! We are excited to welcome a new year and see the children developing new skills and learn together!

 

¡No podemos creer que esta sea nuestra última semana de este año! Nuestra semana estuvo llena de ciencia y experimentación con materiales. Esta semana aprendimos cómo el bicarbonato de sodio ayuda a que las galletas, el pastel y el pan tengan mejor sabor. Los panaderos lo llamaron una partida porque el gas que producen en cobinacion con un ácido ayuda a que las galletas formen los pequeños agujeros dentro de las galletas y el pan. Los niños experimentaron con bicarbonato de sodio y vinagre. Además, los niños hicieron estructuras con gomitas y palillos de dientes. En la mesa de arte, los niños escuchan instrucciones sobre cómo dibujar un hombre de jengibre y juegaron con plastilina y cortadores de galletas. Discutimos cómo podemos ayudar al hombre de pan de jengibre a cruzar el río. Los niños intercambiaron ideas y los puentes, barcos y helicópteros fueron nuestras 3 mejores soluciones. Los niños crearon puentes en diferentes centros y experimentaron con Legos, bloques, tazas y mesas. Crearon puentes asombrosos. Terminamos nuestra semana con nuestro día anual de pijamas y decorando galletas.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
