Bakery/ Panaderia

This week was about the bakery and the gingerbread man. We began our study on bakery by talking about what kind of things we find in the bakery. We talked about cookies, cakes, bread and muffins. We transformed our dramatic play into a bakery. The children pretended to bake cookies and cakes and use mixers and crack eggs. At the science table, we use a cut out of a gingerbread man to measure height and compare with the children’s height. We tasted gingerbread cookies and created a graph by the most eaten part of the cookie. Also, we use marshmallow and rulers to measure the width and the height of the gingerbread man. Also, we observe what happens to gingerbread cookies when we put then in water and milk. The children observe the water change color and the gingerbread cookies “dissolve” (break a part) and the gingerbread man in the milk took longer to dissolve. At manipulative table, we practice counting by rolling the dice and drawing lines in candy cane. We also count 1;1 gingerbread man and we use ten frames. At art table, we decorated gingerbread man and candy canes. Also, we used brown paint to paint their representation of gingerbread man. We read 3 versions of “The Gingerbread Man” we are loving exploring the different versions and learning new words. 

 

Esta semana fue sobre la panadería y el hombre de jengibre. Comenzamos nuestro estudio sobre la panadería hablando sobre el tipo de cosas que encontramos en la panadería. Hablamos de galletas, pasteles, pan y muffins. Transformamos nuestra obra dramática en una panadería. Los niños fingieron hornear galletas y pasteles y usar batidoras y cascar huevos. En la mesa de ciencias, usamos un corte de un hombre de jengibre para medir la altura y compararla con la altura de los niños. Probamos galletas de jengibre y creamos un gráfico por la parte más comida de la galleta. Además, usamos malvaviscos y reglas para medir el ancho y la altura del hombre de jengibre. Además, observamos lo que sucede con las galletas de jengibre cuando las ponemos en agua y leche. Los niños observan que el agua cambia de color y las galletas de jengibre se “disuelven” (rompen en parte) y el hombre de jengibre en la leche tarda más en disolverse. En la mesa manipuladora, practicamos el conteo tirando los dados y dibujando líneas en un bastón de caramelo. También contamos 1; 1 hombre de pan de jengibre y usamos diez marcos. En la mesa de arte, decoramos un hombre de jengibre y bastones de caramelo. Además, usamos pintura marrón para pintar su representación del hombre de jengibre. Leímos 3 versiones de "El hombre de jenjibre" y nos encanta explorar las diferentes versiones y aprender nuevas palabras.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
