How to mantain a friendship/ Como mantener una amistad

This week was short due to inclement weather, but we spent this week learning how to maintain a friendship. We learned how to use kind words to enter into a group, request a turn or share a toy. We learned that grabbing or snatching is not kind. We spent the past four weeks building a school community. We learned what to do when we are afraid, sad or scared at school and how teachers and friends can help or go to our safe place. We learned about the other teachers that work at the school.  This foundation will allow the children to feel secure and create positive relationships with teachers and their peers.  At art table, the children used wood sticks and model playdough to create amazing 3D art and practice their fine motor skills by cutting a fish and making their own rainbow fish. At manipulative & math table, we learned about patterns. The children created patterns with stickers, and they transferred that to create patterns with toys. At literacy, we are learning our letters and sounds. At sensory table, we played with soapy water, sponges and measuring cups. At science, we decided the name of our new classroom pet. We have a betta fish and we named it Bubbles. The children spent the week looking at Bubbles and learned about how to take care of Bubbles. Also, the children practice counting, sorting, observing and using the balance. Next week, we will be beginning our first study in apples, fall and pumpkins.

 

Esta semana fue corta debido a las inclemencias del tiempo, pero pasamos esta semana aprendiendo cómo mantener una amistad. Aprendimos a usar palabras amables para entrar en un grupo, pedir un turno o compartir un juguete. Aprendimos que agarrar o arrebatar no es amable. Pasamos las últimas cuatro semanas construyendo una comunidad escolar. Aprendimos qué hacer cuando tenemos miedo, tristeza o miedo en la escuela y cómo los maestros y amigos pueden ayudar o ir a nuestro lugar seguro. Aprendimos sobre los otros maestros que trabajan en la escuela. Esta base permitirá que los niños se sientan seguros y creen relaciones positivas con los maestros y sus compañeros. En la mesa de arte, los niños usaron palitos de madera y plastilina para modelar para crear un increíble arte en 3D y practicar sus habilidades motoras finas al cortar un pez y hacer su propio pez arcoíris. En la mesa de manipulación y matemáticas, aprendimos sobre patrones. Los niños crearon patrones con pegatinas y lo transfirieron para crear patrones con juguetes. En alfabetización, estamos aprendiendo nuestras letras y sonidos. En la mesa sensorial, jugamos con agua jabonosa, esponjas y tazas medidoras. En ciencias, decidimos el nombre de nuestra nueva mascota del salón de clases. Tenemos un pez betta y lo llamamos Bubbles. Los niños pasaron la semana mirando a Bubbles y aprendieron cómo cuidar a Bubbles. Además, los niños practican contar, clasificar, observar y usar la balanza. La próxima semana, comenzaremos nuestro primer estudio en manzanas, otoño y calabazas.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
