We are excited to begin this school year. These two days, the children explored the different centers and the materials. The children loved dramatic centers and blocks area. The children are beginning to make new friends and learning the names of their new friends.  We are learning about your child’s likes and dislikes and how we can support them through every learning experience. The next few weeks, we will connect and learn about our school family. Please let us know if you have any questions. We are here to work as a team to help the children to develop their full potential. 

 

Estamos emocionados de comenzar este año escolar. Estos dos días, los niños exploraron los diferentes centros y los materiales. A los niños les encantan el centro dramático y el área de bloques. Los niños están comenzando a hacer nuevos amigos y están aprendiendo el nombre de sus nuevos amigos. Estamos aprendiendo sobre lo que le gusta y lo que no le gusta a su hijo(a) y cómo podemos apoyarlo en cada experiencia de aprendizaje. Las próximas semanas, nos conectaremos y aprenderemos sobre nuestra familia escolar. Por favor, háganos saber si usted tiene alguna pregunta. Estamos aquí para trabajar en equipo para ayudar a los niños a desarrollar todo su potencial.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. At the table game, the children played with small colored blocks, puzzles, and Mr. Potato Head. At literacy, the children sorted letters by color, matched letters of their first and last names, and worked with letter puzzles and robot letters. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
