This week we learned about rules and the importance of them to maintain an organized and safe environment for all children. We created rules that will help keep us safe and play safely with friends. We added a new step to our daily routine, our safe keeper. Each child created a person that they will put in our safe keeper box. Every morning they promise to be respectful with friends and teachers and with our classroom. Also, the children began signing their name as part of morning routine. We discussed the importance of sharing and taking turns. We are practicing using helpful words with new friends and teachers. The children continued exploring the different learning centers. At art table, the children used different types of paint to create different art pieces. At sensory table, the children used garlic press and sponges to practice their fine motor skills. At blocks center, we added cardboard cylinders, and the children created tall towers. At manipulatives, we added visual cues to help children to create and follow simple patterns. At literacy table, we are encouraging children to recognize letters and introduce their sounds. It was a fun week. We are observing how the children are making new friends and helping each other. Next week, we will be learning about our schedule and went does this happen at school.

 

Esta semana aprendimos sobre las reglas y la importancia de estas para mantener un ambiente organizado y seguro para todos los niños. Creamos reglas que nos ayudarán a mantenernos seguros y jugar de forma segura con amigos. Agregamos un nuevo paso a nuestra rutina diaria, nuestro guardián seguro. Cada niño creó una persona que pondrá en nuestra caja de seguridad. Todas las mañanas prometen ser respetuosos con los amigos y profesores y con nuestra clase. Además, los niños comenzaron a firmar con su nombre como parte de la rutina matutina. Discutimos la importancia de compartir y tomar turnos. Estamos practicando el uso de palabras útiles con nuevos amigos y maestros. Los niños continuaron explorando los diferentes centros de aprendizaje. En la mesa de arte, los niños usaron diferentes tipos de pintura para crear diferentes obras de arte. En la mesa sensorial, los niños utilizaron prensas de ajo y esponjas para practicar su motricidad fina. En el centro de bloques, agregamos cilindros de cartón y los niños crearon torres altas. En los manipulativos, agregamos señales visuales para ayudar a los niños a crear y seguir patrones simples. En la mesa de alfabetización, estamos alentando a los niños a reconocer letras e introducir sus sonidos. Fue una semana divertida. Estamos observando cómo los niños están haciendo nuevos amigos y ayudándose unos a otros. La próxima semana, aprenderemos sobre nuestro horario y que sucede en la escuela.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
