Leaves/Las hojas

This week we learned about another sign of Fall or Autumn. We learned that leaves changes color during the Fall because the trees stop producing chlorophyll, because our days are short. For this reason, the leaves change its color to yellow, red, brown and start falling down. We encourage children to look at the trees around our school. The children noticed the changes and they picked leaves to create beautiful collages at art. Also, they used stick paint to create their representation of leaves. At sensory, we added some leaves, shovels, rakes and Fall objects so the children sorted them. At dramatic play, we added leaves and rakes. The children had so much fun raking the leaves. At science table, the children sorted leaves by color and size. Also, we observed that our ladybugs went through the life cycle and they become adult ladybugs and we released them. It was so cool to observe the ladybugs from an egg to adult ladybugs. At literacy, we are continue learning the letters and sounds. At manipulatives, the children played with small blocks and created patterns with different materials. During circle time, we used the smart board to sort leaves by color. This week some of our friends were sick, we are wishing them well! and hopefully they come back to school soon.


Esta semana aprendimos sobre otro signo de otoño. Aprendimos que las hojas cambian de color durante el otoño porque los árboles dejan de producir clorofila, porque nuestros días son cortos. Por esta razón, las hojas cambian de color a amarillo, rojo, marrón y empiezan a caer. Animamos a los niños a mirar los árboles alrededor de nuestra escuela. Los niños notaron los cambios y recogieron hojas para crear hermosos collages en el arte. Además, usaron pintura en barra para crear su representación de hojas. En la mesa sensorial, agregamos algunas hojas, palas, rastrillos y objetos de otoño para que los niños los clasificaran. En el juego dramático, agregamos hojas y rastrillos. Los niños se divirtieron mucho rastrillando las hojas. En la mesa de ciencias, los niños clasificaron las hojas por color y tamaño. Además, observamos que nuestras mariquitas pasaron por el ciclo de vida y se convirtieron en mariquitas adultas y las soltamos. Fue genial observar las mariquitas desde un huevo hasta mariquitas adultas. En alfabetización, seguimos aprendiendo las letras y los sonidos. En los manipulativos, los niños jugaron con pequeños bloques y crearon patrones con diferentes materiales. Durante la hora del círculo, usamos la pizarra inteligente para clasificar las hojas por color. Esta semana algunos de nuestros amigos estuvieron enfermos, ¡les deseamos lo mejor! y espero que regresen pronto a la escuela.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
