Exercise/ El ejercicio

This week we started our study on exercise. We started a KWL chart. The children created questions that they wanted to find through our study. At dramatic play, we set up a gym. The children lifted weights and ran on the treadmill and pretended to eat fruit. At the sensory table, the children practiced their fine motor skills by hammering golf tees to egg cartons and playdough and balanced a ball. At art table, the children drew pictures of their body, used shapes to make a person, paint with golf balls and play with playdough. At manipulative table, the children use non-standard measure to measure their feet, make patterns and count 1:1 correspondence. At literacy, the children played with alphabet floor puzzles and practiced writing letters. At science, the children recognized and identified bodies parts. First, they did it on a baby doll and then they took turns labeling body parts on each other. Also, we have a classroom pet. It is a Betta Fish and his name is Blue. The children spent time researching some facts about Betta fish. We found out that they are very territorial and very smart. They can learn tricks! At writing table, the children are writing letters and words. If you practice a sport or exercise and you would like to share pictures or come to the classroom and talk about it. Esta semana comenzamos nuestro estudio sobre el ejercicio. Comenzamos un gráfico KWL. Los niños crearon preguntas que querían encontrar a través de nuestro estudio. En el juego dramático montamos un gimnasio. Los niños levantaban pesas, corrían en la cinta y simulaban comer fruta. En la mesa sensorial, los niños practicaron sus habilidades motoras finas martillando dientes de golf sobre cartones de huevos y plastilina y equilibrando una pelota. En la mesa de arte, los niños hicieron dibujos de su cuerpo, usaron formas para formar una persona, pintaron con pelotas de golf y jugaron con plastilina. En la mesa manipulativa, los niños utilizan medidas no estándar para medir sus pies, hacer patrones y contar la correspondencia 1:1. En la clase de alfabetización, los niños jugaron con rompecabezas del alfabeto y practicaron la escritura de letras. En ciencias, los niños reconocieron e identificaron partes del cuerpo. Primero, lo hicieron en una muñeca y luego se turnaron para etiquetar partes del cuerpo entre sí. Además, tenemos una mascota en el salón de clases. Es un Pez Betta y su nombre es Azul. Los niños dedicaron tiempo a investigar algunos datos sobre los peces Betta. Descubrimos que son muy territoriales e inteligentes. ¡Pueden aprender trucos! En el escritorio, los niños escriben letras y palabras. Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
