Pets/Las mascotas

This week we finalize our study about pets Our class decided that a fish pet will be fun to take care of and observe. The children promise to take care of the fish by helping to clean and change water, feed it and check on it every day. At dramatic center, the children continued to pretend to be a vet and take care of the pets. At blocks, we added board and big cylinders. The children were very creative and built amazing structures. At art center, the children used markers to decorate a paper turtle, paint with yarn, follow directions to draw a dog and painted with watercolors and play with playdough and letter stamps. The children spelled and recognized letters. At science center, the children used magnifying glasses to explore different pet foods and drew their observations/findings, playing with animals and rulers. At manipulative, the children used small blocks to build and create patterns. At literacy, the children played Zingo. They are taking turns and waiting for their turns. Also, the children made a book about their pets. It was so much fun to learned about pets! Our next study will be exercise!

 

Esta semana finalizamos nuestro estudio sobre las mascotas. Nuestra clase decidió que sería divertido cuidar y observar un pez como mascota. Los niños prometen cuidar a los peces ayudándolos a limpiar y cambiar el agua, alimentarlos y controlarlos todos los días. En el centro dramático, los niños continuaron haciéndose pasar por veterinarios y cuidando a las mascotas. En los bloques agregamos tableros y cilindros grandes. Los niños fueron muy creativos y construyeron estructuras asombrosas. En el centro de arte, los niños usaron marcadores para decorar una tortuga de papel, pintaron con hilo, siguieron instrucciones para dibujar un perro y pintaron con acuarelas y jugaron con plastilina y sellos de letras. Los niños deletrearon y reconocieron letras. En el centro de ciencias, los niños usaron lupas para explorar diferentes alimentos para mascotas y dibujaron sus observaciones/hallazgos, jugando con animales y reglas. En las actividades manipulativas, los niños utilizaron pequeños bloques para construir y crear patrones. En la alfabetización, los niños jugaban al Zingo. Están tomando turnos y esperando su turno. Además, los niños hicieron un libro sobre sus mascotas. ¡Fue muy divertido aprender sobre las mascotas! ¡Nuestro próximo estudio será el ejercicio!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
