Leaves/Las hojas

This week we learned about leaves and how they change through the fall season. We learned that the tree stops producing chlorophyll during the fall and the other pigments come to the leaves. The tree stops producing it, because the days are short and begin to get cold. The children sorted all the items they collected around the yard or neighborhood. At art center, the children used oil pastel to color their representation of leaves, made leaf collages, made a tree with construction paper and painted and played with play dough.  At blocks, the children built with different blocks and measure their height with blocks. At dramatic play, the children learned that some leaves are used for tea and rake leaves. At writing table, the children matched uppercase letters by using stickers. At manipulatives, the children used colored blocks to make patterns and then drew pictures of their patterns, sorted leaves by colors and created leaf patterns. At sensory table, the children played with leaves and letters and number rocks. The children practice recognizing letters and writing them.  At science, the children sorted their bags, explored a leaf by measuring them, talked about colors, shapes and used words to describe it. Also, they explored a pinecone by measuring the height, width, size and finding out if pinecones float or sink. At literacy, the children continued learning the form of uppercase letters, recognize and identified letters and playing with letter sounds.  Our class decided that our next study would be in transportation. We want to thank all the parents that signed up for a parent-teacher conference. It was great to share your child’s progress and create new goals for your child, remember we are a TEAM!  We need to work together and remember we are here to support you and your child! 

 

Esta semana aprendimos sobre las hojas y cómo cambian durante la temporada de otoño. Aprendimos que el árbol deja de producir clorofila durante el otoño y los otros pigmentos llegan a las hojas. El árbol deja de producirla porque los días son cortos y comienzan a hacer frío. Los niños clasificaron todos los elementos que juntaron en el patio o el vecindario. En el centro de arte, los niños usaron pasteles al óleo para colorear su representación de hojas, hicieron collages de hojas, hicieron un árbol con papel de construcción y pintaron y jugaron con plastilina. En bloques, los niños construyeron con diferentes bloques y midieron su altura con bloques. En el juego dramático, los niños aprendieron que algunas hojas se usan para el té y hojas de rastrillo. En la mesa de escritura, los niños unieron letras mayúsculas usando calcomanías. En los manipulativos, los niños usaron bloques de colores para hacer patrones y luego dibujaron imágenes de sus patrones, clasificaron las hojas por colores y crearon patrones de hojas. En la mesa sensorial, los niños jugaron con hojas y letras y piedras con números. Los niños practican el reconocimiento de letras y su escritura. En ciencias, los niños clasificaron sus bolsas, exploraron una hoja midiéndola, hablaron sobre colores, formas y usaron palabras para describirla. Además, exploraron una piña midiendo la altura, el ancho y el tamaño y descubrieron si las piñas flotan o se hunden. En la centro de alfabetización, los niños continuaron aprendiendo la forma de las letras mayúsculas, reconociendo e identificando letras y jugando con los sonidos de las letras. Nuestra clase decidió que nuestro próximo estudio sería sobre transporte. Queremos agradecer a todos los padres que se inscribieron para una conferencia de padres y maestros. Fue genial compartir el progreso de su hijo y crear nuevas metas para su hijo. ¡Recuerde que somos un EQUIPO! Necesitamos trabajar juntos y recuerde que estamos aquí para apoyarlo a usted y a su hijo.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
