Transportation/ El transporte

This week we started our new study on land transportation. We created a K -W-L to help us to guide our study. We created a list of questions that we will investigate or search for possible answers. We learned that roads are important to help cars to transit. Also, we learned that the lines on the road guide drivers and help them to obey the laws. We transform our dramatic play into an auto shop. The children pretended to be mechanics and fixed the car, washed the car and changed the tire and headlights. At blocks, we added rainbow blocks and road tape to some wooden blocks, and we encourage the children to build and create roads. At sensory table, the children used toothbrushes to wash some dirty cars by handling the small materials it helps to strengthen their fine motor skills. At art table, the children wrote and counted the letters in their name to make a train, drew a picture of their family car and used geometric shapes to make their representation of a car. At science, the children used non-standard measure to measure cars cut out, count 1:1 and write numbers and play with transportation counters to practice different patterns and sort by land transportation. Also, the children used snap blocks to make cars and rockets.  At manipulative, the children practiced following and creating ABC patterns with transportation stickers.  At literacy, the children continued learning letters, sounds and alliterations. We finished our week by a visit, from Bogie. The children petted him and dance with him. It was a short week but full of learning and fun!

 

Esta semana iniciamos nuestro nuevo estudio sobre transporte terrestre. Creamos un K -W-L para ayudarnos a guiar nuestro estudio. Creamos una lista de preguntas que investigaremos o buscaremos posibles respuestas. Aprendimos que las carreteras son importantes para ayudar a los automóviles a transitar. Además, aprendimos que las líneas en la carretera guían a los conductores y les ayudan a obedecer las leyes. Transformamos nuestra obra dramática en un taller de automóviles. Los niños se hicieron pasar por mecánicos y arreglaron el coche, lo lavaron y cambiaron la llanta y los faros. En los bloques, agregamos bloques de arcoíris y cinta adhesiva para carreteras a algunos bloques de madera, y animamos a los niños a construir y crear carreteras. En la mesa sensorial, los niños usaron cepillos de dientes para lavar algunos autos sucios y manipular pequeños materiales ayuda a fortalecer sus habilidades motoras finas. En la mesa de arte, los niños escribieron y contaron las letras de su nombre para hacer un tren, hicieron un dibujo del auto de su familia y usaron formas geométricas para hacer su representación de un auto. En ciencias, los niños usaron medidas no estándar para medir automóviles recortados, contar 1:1 y escribir números y jugar con fichas de transporte para practicar diferentes patrones y clasificar por transporte terrestre. Además, los niños utilizaron bloques a presión para fabricar coches y cohetes.  En la manipulación, los niños practicaron siguiendo y creando patrones ABC con pegatinas de transporte.  En la alfabetización, los niños continuaron aprendiendo letras, sonidos y aliteraciones. Terminamos nuestra semana con la visita de Bogie. Los niños lo acariciaron y bailaron con él. ¡Fue una semana corta pero llena de aprendizaje y diversión!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
