Transportation/ El transporte

This week was short, but it was full of fun. We continued learning about land transportation. We learned that tires have a pattern that help with traction on the road. Also, we found out tires have numbers and letters. The children went outside and explored the tires. We talked about different sizes, patterns, letters and numbers. They drew pictures of their observations. At art table, the children painted with Q- tips and volunteers help children to paint pumpkins.  At blocks, we added materials to help children to create ramps. Children are creating amazing ramps. At science, the children measure pictures of cars with non-standard materials, follow patterns, count 1:1 correspondence material and played with snap blocks to make cars and rockets. We celebrated our annual thanksgiving activity. We ate a delicious snack, and the children showed their creativity by making turkeys. Thanks to all the families for participating. Esta semana fue corta, pero estuvo llena de diversión. Continuamos aprendiendo sobre el transporte terrestre. Aprendimos que los neumáticos tienen un patrón que ayuda con la tracción en la carretera. Además, descubrimos que los neumáticos tienen números y letras. Los niños salieron y exploraron los neumáticos. Hablamos sobre diferentes tamaños, patrones, letras y números. Hicieron dibujos de sus observaciones. En la mesa de arte, los niños pintaron con hisopos y los voluntarios ayudaron a los niños a pintar calabazas. En bloques, agregamos materiales para ayudar a los niños a crear rampas. Los niños están creando rampas increíbles. En ciencias, los niños miden imágenes de automóviles con materiales no estándar, siguen patrones, cuentan material de correspondencia 1:1 y juegan con bloques encajables para hacer automóviles y cohetes. Celebramos nuestra actividad anual de Acción de Gracias. Comimos una merienda deliciosa y los niños mostraron su creatividad haciendo pavos. Gracias a todas las familias por participar. Esperamos que pasen un momento maravilloso con su familia.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
