This week was full of fun! We started our week by learning about the buildings around our school.  We talked about their special characteristics such as roof, windows, doors, letters or numbers, etc. At sensory table, we played with shaving cream and colored blocks. The children built amazing buildings together! At art table, the children painted with blocks, used geometric shapes to make buildings, painted with Legos and decorated their valentines’ day bags. At literacy, the children recognized alliteration and sorted letters. The children are recognizing letters, sounds and alliterations! At manipulative, the children used Legos to create buildings. They created amazing structures. Also, they used hammers to hammer the right numbers. The children recognize numbers and counting 1:1 correspondence. At dramatic play, the children continued experimenting with materials and pretended to be architects. They created amazing structures with a variety of materials. At block table, the children used a variety of blocks to create different towers and buildings.  At science table, the children used toothpicks and dots to build a house for a pig and Ms. Li was the big bad wolf. She used a blow-dryer to test the strength of the children’s house and used link manipulatives to measure pieces of tapes. At library, the children used prompts to retell “The Three Little Pigs”. We are finally ended our week by celebrating Valentine’s Day. The children exchanged cards and candy, and we want to thank the parents for donating delicious special snacks.

¡Esta semana estuvo llena de diversión! Comenzamos nuestra semana aprendiendo sobre los edificios alrededor de nuestra escuela.  Hablamos de sus características especiales como techo, ventanas, puertas, letras o números, etc. En la mesa sensorial jugamos con crema de afeitar y bloques de colores. ¡Los niños construyeron juntos edificios increíbles! En la mesa de arte, los niños pintaron con bloques, usaron formas geométricas para hacer edificios, pintaron con Legos y decoraron sus bolsas del día de San Valentín. Durante la alfabetización, los niños reconocieron la aliteración y clasificaron las letras. ¡Los niños están reconociendo letras, sonidos y aliteraciones! En los manipulativos, los niños usaron Legos para crear edificios. Crearon estructuras asombrosas. Además, usaban martillos para marcar los números correctos. Los niños reconocen los números y cuentan en correspondencia 1:1. En el juego dramático, los niños continuaron experimentando con materiales y fingieron ser arquitectos. Crearon estructuras asombrosas con una variedad de materiales. En la mesa de bloques, los niños usaron una variedad de bloques para crear diferentes torres y edificios.  En la mesa de ciencias, los niños usaron palillos de dientes y puntos para construir una casa para un cerdo y la Sra. Li era el lobo feroz. Usó un secador de pelo para probar la resistencia de la casa de los niños y utilizó manipuladores de eslabones para medir trozos de cintas. En la biblioteca, los niños utilizaron indicaciones para volver a contar “Los tres cerditos”. Finalmente terminamos nuestra semana celebrando el Día de San Valentín. Los niños intercambiaron tarjetas y dulces y queremos agradecer a los padres por donar una deliciosa y especial merienda.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
