This week we started our study on buildings. We began by creating a KWL chart. We discuss what our class knows about buildings and what do they want to learn about buildings. We transformed our dramatic play into a construction site with tools and different building materials. The children explored the materials and created different towers and buildings. At art table, the children made valentines cards for senators and representatives that support early childhood education, drew pictures of their house, made buildings with geometric shapes and made houses out of wood popsicles. At blocks area, the children used a variety of blocks and created amazing structures. At science, the children used wood logs and building toys to create different types of homes. At writing table, the children practice writing letters. At manipulative table, the children-built towers with small blocks and used rulers to measure the height, and we used a wrecking ball to knock blocks down and the children count 1:1 correspondence. Also, the children are making different structures with Legos. We designated a safe place in the room where children can display their small building creations. It was a great week full of new learning!

Esta semana comenzamos nuestro estudio sobre edificios. Comenzamos creando un gráfico KWL. Discutimos lo que nuestra clase sabe sobre edificios y qué quieren aprender sobre los edificios. Transformamos nuestra obra dramática en una obra de construcción con herramientas y diferentes materiales de construcción. Los niños exploraron los materiales y crearon diferentes torres y edificios. En la mesa de arte, los niños elaboraron tarjetas de San Valentín para senadores y representantes que apoyan la educación infantil, dibujaron su casa, construyeron edificios con formas geométricas y construyeron casas con paletas de madera. En el área de bloques, los niños usaron una variedad de bloques y crearon estructuras asombrosas. En ciencias, los niños utilizaron troncos de madera y juguetes de construcción para crear diferentes tipos de hogares. En la mesa de escritura, los niños practican la escritura de letras. En la mesa manipulativa, los niños construyeron torres con bloques pequeños y usaron reglas para medir la altura, y usamos una bola de demolición para derribar bloques y los niños contaron la correspondencia 1:1. Además, los niños están haciendo diferentes estructuras con Legos. Designamos un lugar seguro en la sala donde los niños pueden exhibir sus pequeñas creaciones de construcción. ¡Fue una gran semana llena de nuevos aprendizajes!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
