This week, we celebrated what we learned about buildings by working on our final project. The children worked on teams to design and create their own building. The children created amazing buildings. Please take a look for their buildings, pictures and blueprints. They worked really hard. At sensory table, the children played with wet sand and mold of different buildings. The children had fun by exploring different size and pouring cups. At blocks, the children continued building and exploring different blocks and boxes. At dramatic play, the children continue building with different materials and using tools. At literacy, the children sorted letters and wrote them. At art table, the children painted with Q-Tips and created their own version of the book “Not a Box” and colored colorful socks. We had two officers that visited our school and taught us how they protected us and our community, and the children explored their cars. We finished our week by celebrating World Down Syndrome Day. We want to thank Scarlett’s family for donating socks to our class and teachers and bringing delicious cookies. Our next study will be on the human body.

Esta semana, celebramos lo que aprendimos sobre edificios trabajando en nuestro proyecto final. Los niños trabajaron en equipos para diseñar y crear su propio edificio. Crearon edificios increíbles. Por favor, observen sus edificios, dibujos y planos. Trabajaron muy duro. En la mesa sensorial, jugaron con arena mojada y moldes de diferentes edificios. Se divirtieron explorando vasos de diferentes tamaños y vertiendo. En la mesa de bloques, continuaron construyendo y explorando diferentes bloques y cajas. En el juego dramático, continuaron construyendo con diferentes materiales y herramientas. En la mesa de lectoescritura, clasificaron letras y las escribieron. En la mesa de arte, pintaron con hisopos, crearon su propia versión del libro "Not a Box" y colorearon calcetines de colores. Dos oficiales visitaron nuestra escuela y nos enseñaron cómo nos protegen a nosotros y a nuestra comunidad, y los niños exploraron sus autos. Terminamos la semana celebrando el Día Mundial del Síndrome de Down. Queremos agradecer a la familia de Scarlett por donar calcetines a nuestra clase y a los maestros, y por traer deliciosas galletas. Nuestro próximo estudio será sobre el cuerpo humano.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
