This week was full of learning and fun! This week we learned about different tools that are used to build buildings. Carpenters use hammers and nails, construction workers use measuring tape and heavy machines such as excavators, cranes, concrete mixers, and dump trucks. At dramatic play, the children are using different materials to create amazing structures. They are learning about strong foundations and balance. At sensory table, the children practice their eye and hand coordination by hammering golf tees and creating patterns. At art table, the children added details to their house, made buildings with paint samples and followed directions to draw a castle. At science, the children built with cups and wood sticks and used tree blocks to build towers. They drew pictures and some of the kids used measuring tapes to measure their height of their tower. At manipulative table, the children played with colored blocks, dominos and rubber rocks to create different animals. At literacy, we continued to play with letters, recognize alliteration and learning the sound of the letters. At blocks, the children drew a blueprint and then built their structure. We finished our week by going to our annual field trip to Marbles Museum. It was so much fun. The children explored different areas and engaged in play with their parents and siblings. 

¡Esta semana estuvo llena de aprendizaje y diversión! Esta semana aprendimos sobre diferentes herramientas que se utilizan para construir edificios. Los carpinteros utilizan martillos y clavos, los trabajadores de la construcción utilizan cinta métrica y máquinas pesadas como excavadoras, grúas, hormigoneras y camiones volquete. En el juego dramático, los niños usan diferentes materiales para crear estructuras asombrosas. Están aprendiendo sobre bases sólidas y equilibrio. En la mesa sensorial, los niños practican la coordinación de ojos y manos martillando tees de golf y creando patrones. En la mesa de arte, los niños agregaron detalles a su casa, hicieron edificios con muestras de pintura y siguieron instrucciones para dibujar un castillo. En ciencias, los niños construyeron con vasos y palos de madera y usaron bloques de árboles para construir torres. Hicieron dibujos y algunos de los niños usaron cintas métricas para medir la altura de su torre. En la mesa manipulativa, los niños jugaron con bloques de colores, dominó y piedras de goma para crear diferentes animales. En alfabetización, continuamos jugando con las letras, reconociendo la aliteración y aprendiendo el sonido de las letras. En los bloques, los niños dibujaron un plano y luego construyeron su estructura. Terminamos nuestra semana yendo a nuestra excursión anual al Museo de Mármoles. Fue muy divertido. Los niños exploraron diferentes áreas y jugaron con sus padres y hermanos.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. At literacy, the children sorted letters by color, matched letters of their first and last names, and worked with letter puzzles and robot letters. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
