This week we learned about what buildings are made of. We discuss that buildings are made of different materials such as: brick, glass, metal, stone and wood. At art table, the children designed their dream house, used shapes to create a house, build a house with clay and wood sticks and painted with Q-Tips. At dramatic play, the children continued experimenting with different materials to build amazing structures and drew blueprints.  At block center, the children built different structures and then drew pictures of their building. At sensory table, the children built with foam blocks on water, we learned about balance and also, we continued using golf tees and hammer to create patterns. At science, the children used tree blocks to build towers and then drew pictures of their towers. Also, they work in a set of two to build towers with cups. We measure with yarn and then we compared them to find out which team built the tallest tower. At manipulative, the children used pattern blocks to make patterns of tools and heavy trucks that they used at the construction site, created patterns with paint samples and build with colored blocks. At literacy, the children worked on matching letters and recognizing alliterations. We want to thank the parents who donated boxes for our final project.

Esta semana aprendimos de qué están hechos los edificios. Hablamos de que los edificios están hechos de diferentes materiales como: ladrillo, vidrio, metal, piedra y madera. En la mesa de arte, los niños diseñaron la casa de sus sueños, usaron formas para crear una casa, construyeron una casa con arcilla y palitos de madera y pintaron con hisopos. En el juego dramático, los niños continuaron experimentando con diferentes materiales para construir estructuras asombrosas y dibujaron planos. En el centro de bloques, los niños construyeron diferentes estructuras y luego dibujaron imágenes de su edificio. En la mesa sensorial, los niños construyeron con bloques de espuma sobre el agua, aprendimos sobre el equilibrio y también, continuamos usando tees de golf y martillo para crear patrones. En ciencias, los niños usaron bloques de árboles para construir torres y luego dibujaron imágenes de sus torres. Además, trabajan en un conjunto de dos para construir torres con tazas. Medimos con hilo y luego los comparamos para averiguar qué equipo construyó la torre más alta. En manipulación, los niños usaron bloques de patrones para hacer patrones de herramientas y camiones pesados ​​que usaron en el sitio de construcción, crearon patrones con muestras de pintura y construyeron con bloques de colores. En la clase de alfabetización, los niños trabajaron en la asociación de letras y el reconocimiento de aliteraciones. Queremos agradecer a los padres que donaron cajas para nuestro proyecto final.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
