This week was really short but full of fun. We created a visual schedule to help children track their day and activities. This schedule will allow children to establish a routine and feel secure in our classroom. At the art center, the children used a variety of shapes to create amazing pictures, used dot-to-dot to paint their family frame, and played with playdough. At science, the children used a balance and explored objects that are heavier and lighter than a rock. They drew pictures of their findings. At the sensory table, the children played with rice, measuring cups, and letters and numbers made of rocks. At the math game, the children played with dressing boards, puzzles, and counting materials. At the literacy center, we engaged in fine motor skills by making circles and using stickers and scissors. We are also learning to spell names and identify letters. At the blocks center, the children built amazing structures. We practiced working together and taking turns. We would like to thank the parents who attended our first partnership event. It was exciting to see the children play with their favorite toys alongside their parents. Thanks for all the support!

Esta semana fue muy corta, pero muy divertida. Creamos un horario visual para ayudar a los niños a llevar un registro de su día y sus actividades. Este horario les permitirá establecer una rutina y sentirse seguros en el aula. En el centro de arte, los niños usaron diversas formas para crear dibujos increíbles, pintaron el marco de su familia con un juego de unir los puntos y jugaron con plastilina. En ciencias, usaron una balanza y exploraron objetos más pesados ​​y más ligeros que una piedra. Dibujaron sus hallazgos. En la mesa sensorial, jugaron con arroz, tazas medidoras y letras y números hechos con piedras. En el juego de matemáticas, jugaron con tablas de vestir, rompecabezas y materiales para contar. En el centro de alfabetización, desarrollamos la motricidad fina haciendo círculos y usando pegatinas y tijeras. También estamos aprendiendo a deletrear nombres e identificar letras. En el centro de bloques, los niños construyeron estructuras increíbles. Practicamos el trabajo en equipo y los turnos. Queremos agradecer a los padres que asistieron a nuestro primer evento de colaboración. Fue emocionante ver a los niños jugar con sus juguetes favoritos junto a sus padres. ¡Gracias por todo el apoyo!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
