This week, we learned about some of the tools and machines used in the building process. We discussed various machines and reviewed important safety rules followed at construction sites. We learned that goggles and hard hats help workers stay safe at the construction site. At the sensory table, the children used a hammer and golf tees to follow and create patterns. At the block area, the children used a variety of blocks to construct detailed and imaginative structures. At the dramatic play area, the children continued experimenting with different materials to create and build a variety of structures. At the manipulative table, the children used colored blocks to make structures, played with Legos, used Unifix cubes to create patterns, worked with puzzles, counted 1:1-correspondence bricks, and recognized numbers by hammering nails. At the literacy center, the children practiced recognizing uppercase and lowercase letters and explored alliteration. At the science center, the children built cup structures, played with magnetic tiles, magnetic building cubes, and building logs. Additionally, the children made predictions about which materials would create the tallest structure, and they will test the two materials that received the highest number of votes. At the art table, the children used paint chips to make castles, formed shapes to build houses, and used watercolors to paint them. It was a busy week!

Esta semana, hemos aprendido sobre algunas de las herramientas y máquinas utilizadas en el proceso de construcción. Hablamos sobre varias máquinas y revisamos las normas de seguridad importantes que se siguen en las obras. Aprendimos que las gafas y cascos ayudan a los trabajadores a mantenerse seguros en la obra. En la mesa sensorial, los niños usaron un martillo y tees de golf para seguir y crear patrones. En la zona de la manzana, los niños usaron una variedad de bloques para construir estructuras detalladas e imaginativas. En el área de juegos espectacular, los niños continuaron experimentando con diferentes materiales para crear y construir una variedad de estructuras. En la mesa manipuladora, los niños usaron bloques de colores para hacer estructuras, jugaron con Legos, usaron cubos Unifix para crear patrones, trabajaron con puzles, contaron ladrillos por correspondencia 1:1 y reconocieron números clavando clavos. En el centro de alfabetización, los niños practicaron el reconocimiento de letras mayúsculas y minúsculas y exploraron la aliteración. En el centro de ciencias, los niños construían estructuras de vasos, jugaban con baldosas magnéticas, cubos magnéticos de construcción y troncos de construcción. Además, los niños hicieron predicciones sobre qué materiales crearían la estructura más alta y evaluarán los dos materiales que recibieron el mayor número de votos. En la mesa de arte, los niños usaban fragmentos de pintura para hacer castillos, formaban formas para construir casas y usaban acuarelas para pintarlas. ¡Ha sido una semana ajetreada!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
