This week, we read “The Three Little Pigs”. We read several versions and it became one of our favorite stories. We compared the books by finding similar and different events in each one. We discussed how buildings are made of different materials. At the art table, the children painted with colored blocks and Legos, using rectangles and squares to represent buildings. At the sensory table, we used shaving cream and blocks to pretend to lay bricks after reading the book “Brick by Brick”. The children created amazing towers. In the manipulative area, the children used colored blocks to build towers, drew pictures of their towers, measured them with rulers, created patterns with unifix cubes, and used pattern blocks as tools. In the dramatic play area, the children continued to use different materials to build various structures. In the blocks center, the children continued to use a variety of blocks to create amazing structures. In science, the children drew pictures of houses and used toothpicks and dots to build houses to protect the little pigs. We tested the strength of the houses by using a blow dryer. Additionally, the children built with cups and wooden sticks. It was a week full of learning and fun!


Esta semana leímos “Los tres cerditos”. Leímos varias versiones y se convirtió en uno de nuestros cuentos favoritos. Comparamos los libros buscando similitudes y diferencias en cada uno. Hablamos sobre cómo se construyen los edificios con diferentes materiales. En la mesa de arte, los niños pintaron con bloques de colores y Legos, usando rectángulos y cuadrados para representar edificios. En la mesa sensorial, usamos espuma de afeitar y bloques para simular la colocación de ladrillos después de leer el libro “Ladrillo a ladrillo”. Los niños crearon torres increíbles. En el área de manipulación, los niños usaron bloques de colores para construir torres, dibujaron sus torres, las midieron con reglas, crearon patrones con cubos Unifix y usaron bloques de patrones como herramientas. En el área de juego dramático, los niños continuaron usando diferentes materiales para construir diversas estructuras. En el rincón de construcción, los niños siguieron usando una variedad de bloques para crear estructuras asombrosas. En ciencias, los niños dibujaron casas y usaron palillos y puntos para construir casas que protegieran a los cerditos. Probamos la resistencia de las casas usando un secador de pelo. Además, los niños construyeron con vasos y palitos de madera. ¡Fue una semana llena de aprendizaje y diversión!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
