Our first week back to school, we learned about blueprints and how architects and engineers design buildings. At the dramatic play center, the children designed blueprints and built amazing structures. At the art table, the children drew pictures of their neighborhood and created building models. It was a week-long project!

At the block center, the children used boxes and a variety of blocks to create amazing structures. At the manipulatives center, the children focused on counting objects and using pattern blocks. At the science table, the children used STEM materials inspired by The Three Little Pigs. They drew pictures, built, and tested their structures—it was so much fun!

At the writing table, the children practiced writing words and adding details to their pictures. Thank you for donating boxes. The children will use them for our final project!

Nuestra primera semana de regreso a clases aprendimos sobre los planos y cómo los arquitectos e ingenieros diseñan edificios. En el área de juego dramático, los niños diseñaron planos y construyeron estructuras increíbles. En la mesa de arte, los niños dibujaron imágenes de su vecindario y crearon modelos de edificios. ¡Fue un proyecto de toda la semana!

En el área de bloques, los niños usaron cajas y una variedad de bloques para crear estructuras increíbles. En el área de manipulativos, los niños se concentraron en contar objetos y usar bloques de patrones. En la mesa de ciencias, los niños utilizaron materiales STEM inspirados en Los tres cerditos. Dibujaron imágenes, construyeron y probaron sus estructuras. ¡Fue muy divertido!

En la mesa de escritura, los niños practicaron escribir palabras y agregar detalles a sus dibujos. Gracias por donar cajas. ¡Los niños las usarán para nuestro proyecto final!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
