This week we celebrate all that we learned about buildings. The children worked in small groups to decide what type of building they wanted to create, used boxes and collage materials to construct their building, and then drew a picture of it. It was amazing to see the children working together, helping each other, and creating amazing buildings. At the writing table, the children wrote words related to building and drew pictures of buildings. At the literacy table, the children practiced alliteration, spelling names, and recognizing uppercase and lowercase letters. At the manipulation table, the children practiced patterns, used pattern blocks, counted 1:1, and recognized numbers. At the sensory table, they played with floating letters. They recognized letters and alliteration. At the blocks table, they continued to use boxes and a variety of blocks to build amazing buildings. It was so much fun to learn about building. Please check our display about buildings. The children worked really hard. Our next study will be on winter.

Esta semana celebramos todo lo que aprendimos sobre los edificios. Los niños trabajaron en pequeños grupos para decidir qué tipo de edificio querían crear, usaron cajas y materiales de collage para construirlo y luego lo dibujaron. Fue maravilloso verlos trabajar juntos, ayudándose mutuamente y creando edificios increíbles. En la mesa de escritura, escribieron palabras relacionadas con la construcción y dibujaron edificios. En la mesa de lectura, practicaron la aliteración, la ortografía de nombres y el reconocimiento de letras mayúsculas y minúsculas. En la mesa de manipulación, practicaron patrones, usaron bloques de construcción, contaron de uno en uno y reconocieron los números. En la mesa sensorial, jugaron con letras flotantes, reconociendo letras y practicando la aliteración. En la mesa de bloques, continuaron usando cajas y una variedad de bloques para construir edificios asombrosos. Fue muy divertido aprender sobre la construcción. No olviden ver nuestra exposición sobre edificios. Los niños trabajaron muchísimo. Nuestro próximo tema de estudio será el invierno.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
