During the last week of December, we spent the week learning about holidays and buildings. At the art center, the children decorated snowmen and stockings. They practiced their fine motor skills by cutting out a tree and then decorating it.

At the literacy center, the children found missing letters and played with ABC puzzles. At the sensory table, the children built gingerbread houses using magnetic tiles, magnetic dots, and pipe cleaners. At the manipulatives center, the children played with dice to recognize numbers, used pattern blocks, created Christmas patterns, and played Candy Land.

At the science table, the children experimented with gumdrops, marshmallows, and candy canes. It was fun and delicious at the same time! They also continued building with cups. At the writing table, the children used stickers to decorate gingerbread houses. At the block center, the children built with boxes and created amazing structures. At dramatic play, the children decorated a Christmas tree.

It was a week full of learning and fun!

We want to thank the parents for all the gifts and cards. We truly felt the love. We hope you had a wonderful holiday and were able to spend time with your loved ones.

 Durante la última semana de diciembre, pasamos la semana aprendiendo sobre los días festivos y las construcciones. En el centro de arte, los niños decoraron muñecos de nieve y medias. Practicaron sus habilidades motoras finas recortando un árbol y luego decorándolo.

En el centro de alfabetización, los niños encontraron letras faltantes y jugaron con rompecabezas del abecedario. En la mesa sensorial, los niños construyeron casas de jengibre usando piezas magnéticas, puntos magnéticos y limpiapipas. En el centro de manipulativos, los niños jugaron con dados para reconocer números, usaron bloques de patrones, crearon patrones navideños y jugaron Candy Land.

En la mesa de ciencias, los niños experimentaron con gomitas, malvaviscos y bastones de caramelo. ¡Fue divertido y delicioso al mismo tiempo! También continuaron construyendo con vasos. En la mesa de escritura, los niños usaron calcomanías para decorar casas de jengibre. En el centro de bloques, los niños construyeron con cajas y crearon estructuras increíbles. En el área de juego dramático, los niños decoraron un árbol de Navidad.

¡Fue una semana llena de aprendizaje y diversión!

Queremos agradecer a los padres por todos los regalos y tarjetas. Realmente sentimos el cariño. Esperamos que hayan tenido unas vacaciones maravillosas y que hayan podido pasar tiempo con sus seres queridos.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
