Exercise/El ejercicio

This week we discussed jobs related to exercise. We talked about coaches, P.E. teachers, and trainers; these jobs help people stay healthy and safe during physical activities. 
At the art table, the children made soccer balls, painted with Q-tips, used markers to create symmetrical pictures of their faces, and played with Play-Doh. In science, the children created a maze with Play-Doh, used straws to move a ball, and explored magnets. At the sensory table, the children used scoops and scissors to move balls from one container to another and used pompoms to make patterns. At the blocks area, the children used a variety of blocks to build structures. In dramatic play, the children pretended to make smoothies and exercise. At the table games area, the children learned about symmetry and patterns.
We finished our week with a visit from Bogie. The children had the opportunity to pet him and spend time with him. It was a week full of learning and fun activities.

Esta semana hablamos sobre trabajos relacionados con el ejercicio. Hablamos de entrenadores, profesorado de educación física y preparadores físicos; estos trabajos ayudan a las personas a mantenerse saludables y seguras durante las actividades físicas.
En la mesa de arte, los niños hicieron balones de fútbol, pintaron con hisopos, usaron rotuladores para crear imágenes simétricas de sus caras y jugaron con Play-Doh. En ciencias, los niños crearon un laberinto con Play-Doh, usaron pajitas para mover una pelota y exploraron imanes. En la mesa sensorial, los niños usaron cucharas y tijeras para mover pelotas de un recipiente a otro y usaron pompones para crear patrones. En el área de bloques, los niños usaron una variedad de bloques para construir estructuras. En el juego dramático, los niños fingieron preparar batidos y hacer ejercicio. En la zona de juegos de mesa, los niños aprendieron sobre simetría y patrones.
Terminamos la semana con la visita de Bogie. Los niños tuvieron la oportunidad de acariciarlo y pasar tiempo con él. Fue una semana llena de aprendizaje y actividades divertidas.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
