Pets! Mascotas!

This week, we are learning about pets. We transformed our dramatic area into A Pet Store. The children pretended to groom their favorite pets and buy delicious treats for their pets. The children are using the journal to write words, numbers and letters. The children used small pet counters to sort by colors, categories and create different patterns. The children used a variety of blocks to build different pet homes. The children experimented with wet sand at the sensory table. The children explored how to mix of water and sand. They learned wet sand is easy to compact. They played with different shapes and built castles. We are practicing are fine motor and literacy skill by making letters with play-dough. Also, the children created beautiful birds with play dough and feather! It was a busy week! We would like to thank the parents who participated in our Annual Breakfast Triangle Wine Experience.

Esta semana, aprendimos acerca de las mascotas. Transformamos nuestra área de dramático en una Tienda de Mascotas. Los niños pretendieron bañar y peinar a su mascota favorita y comprar deliciosos meriendas para sus mascotas. Los niños están usando sus diarios para escribir palabras, números y letras. Los niños usaron mascotas plásticas para clasificarla por colores, categorías y crear diferentes patrones. Los niños usaron una variedad de bloques para construir diferentes casas para sus mascotas. Los niños experimentaron con arena y agua en la mesa sensorial. Los niños exploraron como mezclar agua y arena, Aprendieron que la arena mojada es mas compacta. Ellos jugaron con figuras geométricas y construyeron castillos. Practicamos nuestra motricidad fina y literatura habilidades jugando con plastilina y con  tarjetas con letras. También los niños crearon hermosos pájaros con plastilina y plumas! Fue una semana muy ocupada! Quisiéramos agraces a los padres que participaron en nuestro Desayuno Annual de TWE.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
