Pets! Mascotas!

This week, we transformed our dramatic area into a veterinarian office. The children pretended to examine the pets and write reports. The children used delicious gold fish to sort, count and represent their data. The children practiced their fine motor by playing bug beds and using scissors to make a colorful parrot. Also the children experimented with different instruments. This week was special because it was filled with a lot of love. The children decorated their valentine bags; made valentines cards and shared special treats with their friends. We would like to thank the parents for providing a wonderful snack for our valentine party. 

Esta semana transformamos nuestra  área de dramático en una oficina  de veterinario. Los niños pretendieron  examinar las mascotas y escribir reportes. Los niños usaron delicioso  gold fish para clasificar, contar y representar la data. Los niños practicaron su motricidad fina jugando con pinzas  y usando las tijeras para crear un loro con muchos colores. También los niños experimentaron con diferentes instrumentos. La semana fue muy especial y llena de mucho amor. Los niños decoraron sus bolsa del día de San Valentín, hicieron tarjetas y compartieron dulces con sus amigos. Quisiéramos agradecer a los padres por una maravillosa merienda para nuestra fiesta de San Valentín.

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
