Pets! Mascotas!

This week, we welcome three wonderful guests to our class. On Monday, we welcome two special guests. One of our student oldest brother spent the morning with us. He had the opportunity to play and read to the children. Also, Hayden a boy scout read to us a special book about manners and explained about the different badges. It was exciting to learn from this wonderful young man. On Tuesday, Dr. Andrew and Eli visited our class. It was exciting to learn from a veterinarian how to take care of our pets and watch Eli do tricks. We learned pets need medicine and they also need to visit the vet once a year. We spent the rest of our week bandaging our pets and we learned about estimation. The children estimated how many dog bones will be in a bag. Also, the children created bird feeders; hopefully the birds will enjoy them. The children decided our next study would be on dinosaurs!
Esta semana, le dimos la bienvenida a tres maravilloso invitados a nuestra clase. El lunes, le dimos la bienvenida a dos invitados especiales. Uno de nuestro estudiante hermano mayor paso la mañana con nosotros. El tuvo la oportunidad de jugar y leerle a los niños. También, Hayden un niño explorador nos leyó un libro muy especial acerca de los modales y nos explico acerca de sus diferentes escudos. Fue emocionante aprender de estos maravillosos jóvenes. El martes, el Dr. Andrew y Eli visito nuestra clase. Fue emocionante aprender de un veterinario como cuidad a nuestra mascota y ver como Eli hacia unos trucos. Aprendimos que las mascotas necesita de medicinad y ellos también necesitan ir al veterinario una vez al ano. Pasamos el resto de la semana aprendiendo como aplicar las vendas a nuestra mascotas y aprendimos acerca de estimación. Los niños estimaron cuando huesos de perros habían en una bolsa. También, los niños hicieron comederos de pájaros, esperemos que los pájaros la disfruten. Los niños decidieron que nuestro próximo estudio va hace en dinosaurios!

Our first week of school! For some children they are transitioning from another class, some of the children are adapting to new peers and new schedules and some children are new to our school family. As you know sometimes new things can be scary, and transitioning can be hard. We see a few tears, but the children enjoyed the first week of school.    Our first week together was spent learning about the learning centers, names of new friends, and how to make friends. At the art table, the children drew pictures and played with playdough. At the sensory table, the children played with funnels and measuring cups. At the table game, the children played with small colored blocks, puzzles, and Mr. Potato Head. At literacy, the children sorted letters by color, matched letters of their first and last names, and worked with letter puzzles and robot letters. Our rules/Nuestra reglas

This week, we created the rules of the classroom. We talked about the importance of rules. Rules will help keep us safe. We talked about big and little rules. The rules will help create a supportive and organized school family.  In science, the children learned about primary colors and created new colors by mixing paint and colored water. It was really fun. At the sensory table, we introduced scissors. The children practiced cutting straight lines.  At the art table, the children painted with watercolor, used Q-tips to paint, paint sticks, markers and water to mix colors, and played with playdough. At the dramatic center, the children practiced playing together, sharing materials, and taking turns.  At the table game, the children practiced counting 1:1 correspondence, played with puzzles, and sorted shapes. What to do when we feel sad or scared at school? ¿Qué hacer cuando nos sentimos tristes o asustados en el colegio?

This week we learned about how to recognize what makes us sad or scared at school and what we can do to regulate our emotions. We introduce a safe place. It is a place that the children can use to calm their body and regulate their emotions. The children came up with clever ways to regulate their emotions such as to count to 10 or ask a friend/teacher to read with them or request a hug. We introduced some materials at art center such as playdough, rollers and glue. The children learned they need just a dot of glue. Also, the children drew beautiful self-portraits (take a look at our board). The children continued making new friends and exploring the learning centers.     They are learning their friend’s new names and how to play together. Also, this week we introduced the Question of the Day. It is an opportunity to count and talk about more or less and discuss the answer.
